Have Your Say

Voting is now open for registered members of Ngāti Kahu on the proposed amendments to our Trust Deed. As the Mandated Iwi Organisation that looks after Ngāti Kahu’s fisheries settlement assets, the Rūnanga is required by the Māori Fisheries Amendment Act 2024 to update its Trust Deed. Although the law requires these changes, our Trust Deed can only be amended with the approval of our members, so we are asking for your vote.

Before you vote:
1. Read the Explanation of Trust Deed Changes and the Restated Trust Deed below
2. Have your iwi registration number ready

Votes are checked against iwi registration numbers, and only one vote per registered member will be counted.

Voting closes Friday 30 October 2026, 11:59pm.

Summary

The Rūnanga is the Mandated Iwi Organisation (MIO) that holds Ngāti Kahu’s fisheries settlement assets under the Māori Fisheries Act 2004. The Māori Fisheries Amendment Act 2024 came into force on 26 July 2026, and every MIO must update its Trust Deed to comply with the new law. Even where the law requires a change, our Deed can only be amended with the approval of members, so we need your vote.
