10/12/2021: NGATI KAHU'S FORMER LAWYER, TE KANI WILLIAMS, SWORN IN AS MAORI LAND COURT JUDGE

E TINO HARIKOA ANA MATOU MO KOE TE KANI WILLIAMS: We really like the korero of Annette Sykes about your appointment to the Maori Land Court.

“The new way to swear in a Judge of the Maori Land Court. Even by Zoom the tributes to Judge Te Kani Williams and the words of rembrance to his sister Judge Karina Williams meant not a dry eye in our office.... The master class whaikorero from his father Uncle Tom Williams hit heart spots and brought back a flood of memories of many battles fought for Nga Hapu o Te Motu to get their lands back. Sir Hugh Kawharu; Professor Margaret Mutu and Dr Robert Pouwhare got special deserved mentions. The ceremony was topped off by the Minister of Maori Development bringing a humourous reminder that Judge Williams is an Urban Maori through and through which affiliations stand proudly next to all the rich tapestry of whakapapa lines that maketh the man.... Best wishes Te Kani Williams.”

For our part, Ngati Kahu are proud to have worked with you on many groundbreaking issues in your former role as our lawyer and we are really looking forward to seeing you on the Taitokerau circuit in your new role as Judge ❤️
