19/11/2015: PANUI MATE - JOSEPH (Sandy) LATIMER - UPDATED: CHANGE OF FUNERAL TIME

Matua Joe's whanau advise the following change - the funeral is now set for 11am tomorrow (Friday 20th November) at the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Bonnetts Rd in Kaitaia.  

We have heard that Joseph (Sandy Latimer passed away on Tuesday 17 November 2105 aged 91 years, surrounded by his family, after a short illness.

Much loved father of Lillian (deceased), Marion and Joby (deceased), Larry and Joy, Caitlin and Paul. Rosemary and Vivian, Dorothy and Doug, Bradley and Robyn, David, Jeremy and Chrissy.

16/11/2015: PANUI MATE - MEI MATIU (NEE KARENA WIKI) - 18/11/2015: UPDATED

FINAL UPDATE: Whaea Mei has now been taken to Potahi Marae in Te Kao. Her funeral is set for 10am tomorrow - Thursday 19th November 2015.

TUESDAY 17/11/15 - UPDATE 2: As at this afternoon, whaea Mei is still laying at Pukepoto marae. We will advise any changes as they come to hand.  In any event our roopu will still meet at 8.30am in Awanui prior to travelling to either Pukepoto or Te Kao. 

16/11/2015: PANUI MATE - RUTENE PEREIHA

FINAL UPDATE: Rutene is now lying in Kauhanga marae at Peria. His funeral has been set for 10am tomorrow - Thursday 19th November 2015.

UPDATE:  There will be an 11am service tomorrow (Tuesday17th November 2015) for Rutene at the church in Mangere, after which the whanau will bring him home to Kauhanga marae in Peria.

It is again our sad commssion to let all our people know of the passing of another iwi member.

12/11/2015: NGATI KAHU'S MARGARET MUTU RECOGNISED FOR DEDICATION TO MAORI AND INDIGENOUS RESEARCH:

Professor Margaret Mutu has been awarded the Pou Aronui Award for her sustained contribution to indigenous rights and scholarship in New Zealand.

The Pou Aronui Award is awarded annually by the Royal Society of New Zealand. It acknowledges distinguished service to the humanities-aronui over a sustained period of time.

Margaret is a Professor of Māori Studies in the Faculty of Arts. She is Chairperson of two of her marae and Te Rūnanga-ā-iwi o Ngāti Kahu, Ngāti Kahu’s parliament.

She received the Pou Aronui Award at a special ceremony in Auckland last night.

08/11/2015: PANUI MATE - FRANK JOB

Kua hinga a Frank Job no Te Paatu ki Pamapuria.  It is with sadness that we note the passing of Frank Job yesterday morning.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Otilia (Tilly) and his tamariki mokopuna at this time of tangihanga.  

Frank was  a mokopuna of Neho Popata and the son of Henry Popata.  He is lying in state in Te Paatu marae, Pamapuria and his funeral has been set for Tuesday morning at 10am in Te Paatu marae, followed by interment at Tarakaka urupa at St Stephens in Pamapuria.

Tena koutou,

Kua hinga a Lucy (Ruiha) Allen, nee Poharama.

We have been asked by the whanau of Lucy Allen to let all our people know that their cherished mother passed away today.

Whaea Lucy was the daughter of Kataraina (nee Rewiti-Rutene) and John Poharama. Her tupapapaku will be brought to her home opposite the substation on Oruru Rd tomorrow (Friday 6th November 2015). She will lay in her home for that night, before being taken to Karepori marae on Saturday 7th November. We will advise funeral arrangements as they come to hand.
