Aue taukiri e! Kua hinga a Herbie Porter (Ngati Kahu / Te Rarawa) inanahi kei tana kainga.
One of the hardest-working men ever passed away yesterday morning at his home.
Alongside whaea Lil, Matua Herbie Porter built a farm, a kohanga reo, a whanau, a life. A man of few words, let his works stand as testament to a life well-spent. His whanau have shared the following details for his tangihanga and ra nehu:
As per his wishes, [Herbie] will lie at Ranginui kohanga - 1 Bedgood Park (off Church Road) Kaitaia - until Monday, 25 July, after the 10am Service. For those that don't know, this is the road opposite Kaitaia Primary - leading to our main rugby fields, and refuse-recycle centre. After the Service he will be taken out to Ahipara and our whanau urupa/cemetery at the south end of our farm, Ngakaroa Road (off Roma Road). We will all return to town for hakari (for which we are looking to lease Kaitaia Rugby Clubrooms next door to Ranginui). No reira - nau mai haere mai e nga whanaunga me nga iwi o nga hau e wha. Mihi mai.
Ka aroha ki a koe whaea Lil me to tamariki Gideon, Bertha, Rueben, TeRana Porter me o koutou mokopuna hoki.
E matua Herbie, kua okioki koe i nga mauiuitanga i raru ai to tinana, engari ko to wairua hihiko ka mau tonu.
